Gizmodo ran a “small” prank at the CES convention in Las Vegas en replies that negative publicity can be good publicity too.

Last week, (January 7-10) the CES was held in Las Vegas. On this convention, companies present their latest gadgets. Many journalists and bloggers were present to bring the latest news.

Gizmodo was looking for more and strawled the convention with the TV-B-Gone kit. Using this remote, it is possible to disable many of the screens around. And Gizmodo did exactly that. They walked through the convention area disabling the screens of large companies giving a presentation on their latest gadgets. Untill Gizmodo crippled their presentations by disabling their screens.

Gizmodo made a small video about their walk. this video can be looked at from their weblog in a post named “Confessions: The meanest thing Gizmodo did at CES“.

The consequences are not clear. But many other logs (thenextweb, webware, redcouch) already noticed the damage to the reputation of the weblog community. Will we be invited to the next CES convention or any other convention?

Offcourse, although the establishment may ignore weblogs since these are not official press, many clients and buyers nevertheless visit a weblog to find the latest news about gadgets. Which company ignores its own client base?

Update* Maybe Gizmodo is only starting to be annoying. Read this post about a boy in Poland who used a TV-B-Gone kit kind of device to disable railway junctions.
