Making a quality website requires creativity. Being creative can be difficult, especially if you must be creative instantly. Being creative requires the right environment and setting. And if you are able to create the right setting, you must take your time to be creative. How can you optimize your creativity?

Prioritize your work and time

Firstly, make sure that you have a list of tasks and prioritize them. You should be aware of the amount of time you are rushing emergencies. Many people fill their days with problem solving and chasing their to do list. Remember that most emergencies exist because they were not solved at an earlier stage. Also, if a job is solved in the emergency stage it may costs you twice the time and even more energy to cope with the stress

Block time in your calendar to be creative. If you need to be creative, block time to write that fantastic blogpost or make that great design. Do not read e-mail and do not take telephone calls. Pretend being on a business meeting with a large client. You would not be available in that situation either . Realize that being creative can make the difference in being successful.

Download this e-book titled time management for creative people

Find the flow

The flow is the state of mind in which you are completely focused on the job at hand. It looks like supreme concentration in which the ideas pop up automatically. Look for this state. You could for example try to change the environment you are working in, the time your are working or even your clothing.

On webhypes Coen placed a post about his preference for having loud music when working. The first comment however is from a person saying that music makes him less productive. Find your own preferences.

Steve Pavlina writes about personal development for smart people. He made a post about his 7 rules for maximizing creative output.

Be happy

To give the best of yourself you should be happy with the things you are doing. Ask yourself what percentage of your time you are spending on tasks you do not like. Then write down what percentage of your time you are spending on tasks that you tolerate. Thirdly, write down what percentage of time you are spending on activities you love.

What do you think would be the average time somebody spends on fantastic tasks? I think it is a requirement to have your creative time being a task that is absolutely fantastic to you. If you spend most of your time doing regular tasks you do not like or dislike you are holding yourself down. If you spend most of your time doing tasks that you do not like, change your job.

You can read an article by David Maister about this subject. Look at the paragraph named "your lives are miserable" in which he has an audience of consultants that think the mix of love tolerate and dislike is 5%, 85%, 10%. What is your mix?
